I grew up at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains and returned to raise a family, work hard, and serve the community that shaped me. As a City Councilmember, environmentalist, champion of education, mom and public servant, I have the experience and dedication to represent our area at the State level.

Meet Deborah Klein Lopez

As the community assesses the damage from recent wildfires, windstorms and power outages, local City Councilmember and former Mayor Deborah Klein Lopez has announced her campaign to represent this beautiful yet vulnerable area in the 2026 State Legislature. She launches with broad community support, including endorsements from current Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, who terms out of service in 2026, along with Congresswoman Julia Brownley, State Senator Henry Stern, Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath and a wide range of local leaders, organizations and residents.

Deborah has deep roots in the district. She grew up at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains, where Los Angeles and Ventura Counties meet, and returned to raise her own family in the area. She is a product of our local public school system, an avid hiker who understands our native terrain and a believer that everyone has the right to live in safe, healthy neighborhoods.

Deborah has spent decades giving back to our community:

  • As an Agoura Hills City Councilmember, Deborah has helped lead the city through various crises, including the Woolsey Fire, floods and COVID-19, focusing on improved communications, small-business support and emergency response and preparedness. She has represented our area on the League of California Cities Public Safety Policy Committee and as Mayor, she helped break ground on the largest urban-wildlife crossing in the world.

  • Deborah is currently the Chair of the Board for Clean Power Alliance, the largest 100% renewable energy provider in the nation.

  • Deborah holds an Associate Director position on the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains board.

  • As her three children attended public school, Deborah served as Parent Faculty Club president at all levels. She also managed a four-city, two-county ballot measure that secured millions of dollars in stable funding for the local school district.

  • Through her congregation, Deborah managed a weekly winter homeless shelter program in the Conejo Valley for nearly 20 years.

Deborah is a graduate of Northwestern University with a dual major in Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences and Economics. Professionally, she has worked as a project manager and financial analyst for large international companies like Reuters and J.D. Power and Associates as well as for the State Legislature. Deborah speaks fluent Spanish and lives in Agoura Hills with her husband of 30 years, Fabricio.
